Jeep 2500

You are currently browsing the archive for the Jeep 2500 category.

Alrighty, so I’ve received some more information from a few different sources.  I’ve had a lot of interest in my earlier article on the Jeep 2500.  Especially and ironically from China.  The forum over at FBLife.com picked up my blog about how I liked the new body style.  Long story short, their whole forum thread was exactly the opposite.  They really like the ‘97 Cherokee body style from the United States and whish they could have them imported to China.

In any case, I drummed up some new pictures and some specs.

Jeep 2500

Many people are not aware the Jeep XJ was not discontinued entirely.  In fact not only did it continue but the body design was further improved upon.  After the Jeep Cherokee was discontinued here in the United States, it assumed a new name in China.  Jeep began manufacturing the Jeep 2500 for the Chinese market on the XJ platform.

Now the specefications are pretty close to the original XJ.  It sits on the same frame, mostly the same style body.  The main difference in the body being a neater, newer front end.  The 2500 gets its name from the 2.5 Liter four cylinder engine.  Rumors are they were produced even into 2007, however I haven’t found anything to support this.

It does give you a great idea of how the XJ would look today if it was still manufactured in the United States.   There are multitude of XJ fans who have been attempting to get parts of the 2500 shipped to the United Stated so that they can upgrade their front end with the new bumper and grill.

And as always there is a bottom line and that is ther are a lot of us who wish they had never stopped production on the Jeep Cherokee.  So, in a hopeless plea, “Daimler Chrysler, please start up the Jeep Cherokee plants again.”
